The Divine Mercy Chaplet
“Jesus, I trust in You.”
The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful devotion given by Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalska, a humble Polish nun. It is prayed using ordinary rosary beads, but the focus is on God’s infinite mercy—for ourselves and for the whole world.
“Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to My mercy.”
— Jesus to St. Faustina (Diary, 300)
How to Pray the Chaplet
Using a standard rosary:
- Begin with the Sign of the Cross
- Opening Prayers:
- “You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls…”
- Pray 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed
- On the Our Father Beads (large beads): “Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.” - On the Hail Mary Beads (small beads): “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
- Repeat for five decades.
- Conclude with: “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” (repeat 3 times)
- Optional Closing Prayer: “Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible…”
Why Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet?
The Chaplet is especially powerful when prayed:
- At 3:00 PM, the Hour of Mercy (when Jesus died)
- For the dying
- In times of suffering or intercession
- As an act of reparation for sin
“Pray as much as you can for the dying. By your entreaties, obtain for them trust in My mercy…”
— Jesus to St. Faustina (Diary, 1777)
It’s a devotion of love, trust, and intercession. Jesus promised, through this prayer, He will pour out unimaginable graces upon those who trust in His mercy.
“Souls who spread the honor of My mercy I shield through their entire life as a tender mother her infant.”
— Diary, 1075
